The young Ceramists Additive Manufacturing Forum (yCAM) is an event and networking platform organized by EMC and supported by ECerS and the JECS Trust, dedicated to all young researchers interested in the Additive Manufacturing of ceramics.

yCAM cooperates with ECerS Young Ceramists Network to advertise their reciprocal activities.

The yCAM conference covers the main AM technologies applied to ceramics and in particular the following topics:

  • Direct 3D printing
  • Indirect, powder-based 3D printing
  • Stereolithography
  • Fused deposition modeling
  • Robocasting
  • Selective laser sintering/melting
  • Laminated object manufacturing
  • Novel Additive Manufacturing technologies

Additive Manufacturing materials and applications:

  • Silicate ceramics, pottery, ceramic art and architecture
  • Technical ceramics and advanced applications: bioceramics, porous ceramics, piezoelectric ceramics, printed circuits etc.
  • Composites and multi-material Additive Manufacturing

Design and software:

  • Innovative and process-driven design
  • Software and data preparation for Additive Manufacturing

yCAM 2018 conference is sponsored by the JECS Trust and by ICerS and is patrocinated by the University of Padova and the Industrial Engineering Department.

Students, young researchers or young professionals: in order to facilitate your participation, registration fees are set as low as possible (50€).

JECS Trust offers also 20 travel grants up to 300€; priority will be given to who will deliver an oral presentation.

Giorgia Franchin graduated from the University of Padova (Italy) with a Bachelor’s Degree (2011) and a Master’s Degree (2013) in Materials Engineering. In 2017 she obtained PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Padova. During her PhD studies she worked at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab (Cambridge, MA) with the Mediated Matter group. Currently she is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Padova in the Advanced Ceramics and Glass group. Her main research interests are in the Additive Manufacturing (AM) of ceramic materials. She is working mainly on direct ink writing using preceramic polymers and geopolymers to produce highly porous lattices and bioceramic scaffolds, and on different AM processes for glass production.

Andrea Zocca graduated from the University of Padova (Italy) with a Bachelor’s degree (2009) and Master’s degree (2011) in Materials Engineering. In 2015 he obtained a PhD in Materials Engineering from Clausthal University of Technology (Germany) and the University of Padova, in the frame of a joint doctorate. During his PhD studies he worked at BAM, Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, Berlin (Germany) and at Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Padova (Italy). In 2015 he obtained an Adolf Martens post-doc fellowship at BAM. Currently he is post-doctoral researcher at BAM in the division of Ceramic Processing and Biomaterials. His main research interests are in the Additive Manufacturing of ceramic materials, with focus on technical ceramics and on the processing of preceramic polymers.

David Karl received a diploma in fine art from Braunschweig University of Art (2010) studying with Nicola Torke, Jospehine Pryde, Dörte Eißfeldt and Thomas Rentmeister. He earned a Master of Fine Arts at the Slade School of Fine Art of University College London (2012). In 2015 he obtained a bachelor's degree in materials sciences from Technical University of Berlin. At present he is pursuing a PhD at the chair of Advanced Ceramic Materials headed by Prof. Dr. Aleksander Gurlo. Since 2016 his work has been supported by the Evonik Foundation. His current research focuses on the Additive Manufacturing of composites as well as ceramic materials.
